Alan, who retired from the police force some thirty years ago, found silversmithing and making jewellery to be a very relaxing hobby. His earlier apprenticeship as a fitter has given him the necessary skills to use many of the tools required.
With gold prices so high at present, he now concentrates on silver and makes a variety of necklaces, bracelets, bangles, and earrings. He gains inspiration from trees and shrubs found locally on the East Sussex coast where he lives.
A speciality of his are pictures made from thin silver sheet which are mounted on black silk before being framed. Another popular item is the chainlink twisted bracelet without a clasp, it is simply rolled on and off.
