One Good Turn

One of our members, Peter Castle, recently received an unexpected accolade.

The Association of Woodturners of Great Britain hold an International Seminar biennually at Loughborough University. Demonstrators and delegates attend from all around the world, for example, this year there were representatives from as far afield as New Zealand, South Africa and a number from The Americas. Each is invited to display three items of their work and, from the hundreds presented, fifty are chosen to represent woodturning today at various events during the following year.

Peter has had items chosen on two previous occasions, at this event, but was surprised to find that again he was included this year. His work tends to accentuate simplicity (wabi sabi) which is not the current fashion and the bowl chosen concentrated on shape and form. It is good to know that the skills of the traditionalists are still recognised.
